Avalon Elizabeth Chellberg was born on August 6, 1934 in the city of Avalon on Catalina Island to Benjamin and Mary Alice Chellberg. Avalon attended and graduated from Avalon High School.
Avalon married her high school sweetheart, Burton Franklin Richardson on September 14, 1952 and they began their 66-year journey together. Avalon was a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and doted on all the family members. Her focus was family. She was a stay at home mom and when the children were a bit older, she was a teacher's aide at her children’s elementary school and then eventually when the children were young adults, she worked as a tax preparer. Always keeping the family a priority, she attended sporting events, being the original Uber driver, she drove countless hours to insure the kids were on time to all practices and games. She also dedicated herself to the Brownies and Girl Scouts, again, sacrificing her time to spend time with her children. Her treasure was her family and she is the treasure to the family!
She loved her family and also loved golfing and was the one to beat on the courses, even against the men! She had a sweet tooth, loving Swedish Fish, black licorice, chocolate covered honeycomb and ice cream to name a few and enjoyed baking scratch brownies, scratch fudge, Russian tea cakes, Swedish pancakes, and her famous chocolate lava cake! She also was the strongest and most quiet swimmer you would ever see. Most importantly, she had the most incredible voice and loved to sing. As a teenager she wascast as Mary in the Catalina Island Christmas Pageant singing Ave Maria and as an older adult, she was a member of the College of the Siskiyous Choir! Her voice out sang everyone in the room!
Avalon Elizabeth Richardson was called home to be with the Lord God Almighty on October 20, 2024 where she joined those who preceded her; her loving husband Burton and grandson Michael. She is survived by her family including; daughter Avalon, son Burton and his wife Sarah, daughter Angela and her husband Robert, daughter Arlene, grandchildren Jenell and her husband Robert, Desiree and her husband Jeff, Christian,Talina Queen and Robbie, great grandchild Alexie and her wife Alexis, her sister Louise, and her sister in law Cathy and husband Bruce and a host of other family and friends. A special mention of gratitude as Avalon was blessed with caregivers whom she loved dearly, Fabi, Lucely, Susan, Corina, Janeth, Maria, and Claudia.
Avalon, Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Sister and Friend, was simply blessed, was a blessing to so many, and will always be cherished and remembered as an example of a loving, caring, funny, giving, sweet tooth baker, with a voice of an angel.
