Augusto D. David

August 30, 1945 — December 20, 2022

Augusto "Gusto" Dizon David, born on August 30, 1945 in Angeles City, Philippines, died peacefully and with such grace at the age of 77 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his wife and 3 beautiful children at the ICU in Good Samaritan Hospital, Los Angeles.

Gusto was one of the eight children born to Aurelio and Teofila David. He lived through the crisis of losing his father early on in life as well as his sister whom he was very close to with such grace. He worked as a photograph editor for many decades at Clark Air Base, Angeles City Philippines where he retouched photographs by hand using paint or ink, pieced together in the darkroom from separate photographs. He was a brilliant artist. He also loved bowling- he joined friendly tournaments and almost always won. He has passion for singing and loved to sing to Frank Sinatra songs.

In 2015, Gusto immigrated to the United States with his wife Elizabeth. He frequented the East Coast - New York, New Jersey, Maine to see his siblings and children. He loves camaraderie so family get togethers bring him so much joy as he gets to relive the past over a serving or two of everything crunchy- one of which is chicharon. He was always generous with family back in the Philippines, ensuring that he provides help in times of need. Gusto was a calm, humble man working quietly in the background- but making things happen.

He was also a doting grandfather. He adoringly took care of all his grandchildren. He would play and run after them all day (tirelessly at that), joke with them, tickle them, make silly faces with them, eat chicharon with them- he was a fun "Wowo" or "Papa". His overflowing love for his family was what made him hold on to life as long and lengthy as he could.

Gusto was preceded in death by his parents Aurelio and Teofila, siblings Reinfredo, Conrado and Teresita.

Augusto is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his daughters Kathleen Lea Sengco, Marlou Anne Fajardo and Jamie Rose Gegenworth, Kristina Martin, his grandchildren Miguel Rameses Fajardo, Raphael Joshua Fajardo, Isabella Pauline Fajardo, Julio Sebastian Amisola and Vincent Sean Gegenworth, his sons in law Rameses Fajardo, Rommel Sengco and Chuck Gegenworth, siblings Emilia Lawson, Adore Lewis, Susan Pastrana and Enrique David. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and the Philippines.

Funeral Services will be held at the Forest Lawn- Long Beach Memorial Chapel between 10 AM- 2 PM on January 19th, 2023 immediately following a church service. He will be cremated on January 23rd, 2023 9:30 AM at Forest Lawn Glendale. Interment of ashes will be on January 25th, 2023 at Forest Lawn- Long Beach Columbarium of Promise Niche 2791A.

Augusto will be truly missed and will never be forgotten.
