Audrey Hazel Ruben

Audrey Hazel Ruben, born November 28, 1926, Union City, New Jersey, passed away July 14, 2018, Irvine, California. Longtime Palmia resident, Audrey Ruben passed away peacefully, July 14, 2018, after a brief hospitalization. Mrs. Ruben and her husband, Robert, have been residents of Palmia since 1991. She was a founding member of the Palmia Players. Mrs. Ruben, a New Jersey native, was valedictorian of her high school's class, and a New Jersey State Debating Champion. She received a full scholarship to NYU of NYC, received a Master's Degree from Columbia Teachers College and a J.D. from St. John's University Law School. She met her husband as a camp counselor in the summer of 1947. They were married in 1949 and Mr. Ruben was a partner in one of the top New York law firms, Shea & Gould. The Rubens have two children, Pamela Golum and James Ruben, M.D. Audrey was very active in community activities and was President of the League of Women Voters in Rye, N.Y., a writer for the AAUW (American Association of University Women) newsletter and had been a securities arbitrator for the past 20 years. She also taught high school calculus and geometry in Floral, N.Y., practiced family law in Port Chester, N.Y., and has been active in the Palmia community. Services will be private for the family, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center or Shriners Hospital for Children in Northern California.
