Athena Virginia Pappas

August 29, 1929 — February 15, 2025

Athena Virginia Pappas fell asleep on February 15, 2025, and went home to be with the Lord.

She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, on August 29, 1929 to John and Alexandra Pappas, and was one of four children, including Angela Pappas, Dolores Kaplan, and Mary Lou Putrino.

She is predeceased by her husbands Teodor Angel, and Alexandros M. Tsilimidos, and by her son, Ricardo Angel, and is survived by her son Methodi Angel, daughters Naomi Angel and Maria A. Tsilimidos, her son-in-law, Timothy Brice (Maria’s husband), and her two grandchildren, Alexandros T.T. Brice and Sophia T.T. Brice.

She was baptized and raised in the Greek Orthodox Church.

She later lived in California with her family until she passed away.

She loved to write poetry. But her real passion was singing (she had a beautiful voice) and dancing, especially Greek folk dancing. She loved attending Greek festivals, where she would dance joyously, and passionately for hours upon hours, and would often generously teach the dances to others who were just learning.

In her later years, she loved “popsicalis”, “hamburgers, french fries, and Coke”, singing her favorite songs, spending time with her good friend Gloria, and watching Green Acres, Golden Girls, and I Love Lucy. She brought so much joy and laughter to our lives through her warm spirit and unpredictable wit.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly and will be deeply missed.

May her memory be eternal.
