Atala Bravo, peacefully passed away with her loving daughter by her side, on June 9, 2025, in La Verne, California. She was the remarkable age of 111. Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on May 15, 1914, Atala's life was a testament to resilience and grace, as she navigated through significant historical events and personal challenges with unwavering faith and humility.
For over two decades, Atala dedicated her career to teaching, nurturing young minds in kindergarten through second grade. Her heartfelt commitment to education reflected her deep love for children, and she celebrated each child's individuality with kindness and patience. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, her strong faith guided her throughout her life, and she was known for her constant prayers for others.
Atala cherished her family deeply and was an integral part of their lives. She found joy in reading her scriptures, attending church services, and expressing her affection through her love of cooking. Friends and family will fondly remember her generous spirit, always ready to feed and care for others, she had a humble, kind, and sweet personality that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
At the time of her passing, Atala is survived by her daughter, Violeta Villao; grandchildren, Manuel Villao, Maria Villao-Coll, Daniel J (Julie Ann) Villao, and Diana (Thomas) Gealta; as well as eight great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward the legacy of her love and devotion.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jose V. Villao; granddaughter-in-law, Rosa A. Villao; and six siblings.
A funeral service to honor Atala's life will be held at the Forest Lawn - Covina Hills - Church of our Heritage in Covina, California, on June 20, 2025, at 2:30 PM.
With a life that spanned generations, Atala Bravo not only witnessed history but actively contributed to her community with love and service. Her well-lived life, intertwined with strong faith and devoted family ties, will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known her.
