Arthur S. Weissbein

August 30, 1929 — September 8, 2012

Arthur S. Weissbein, 83, of La Quinta, Calif., passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012 in La Quinta, in his beloved desert home on Skyward Way, of natural causes. He was born on August 30, 1929 to Clara and David Weissbein, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He married Marie Martone, the mother of his children, in 1950. Sig, as he was known to all his friends, played basketball at Syracuse University and graduated with honors. He went on to the University of Vermont School of Medicine, graduating Cum Laude in 1956. He served as an MD in the US Army before settling into practice, with the help of his longtime and faithful staff, as a Doctor of Internal Medicine at St. Bernardine's Hospital in San Bernardino, Calif. Sig gave of his time generously, performing countless hours of volunteer service; he was much beloved by the nuns there. Dr. Weissbein served as Chief of Staff for two separate terms. He was a long-term member of the Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernardino. Sig, along with his wife Thora, moved to the desert in 1992, where they were members of Desert Falls Country Club. He was an avid golfer and sports fan. He always enjoyed the company of his many friends, especially his lifelong friend Bob Astone, his wife Barbara, Wayne Bell, Ron Smith, and Ray Goldie. Sig is survived by his wife, Thora; his two sons, Mitch and Tom; his daughter, Kendra; Tom's wife, Ania Bijac; stepsons, Mike and Ken; cousins, Lois Kahn and Elaine Smith; and seven loving grandchildren: Claire, Ian, Janek, Juliana, Laura, Mania, and Tristan. His Memorial was held Wednesday, September 12, at Forest Lawn, in Cathedral City.
