Armando Mejia Jiron, 83, born on December 1, 1936, in San Isidro, Matagalpa, Nicaragua, passed away September 9, 2020. He resided in Los Angeles, CA at the time of his passing. Armando was a loving and exemplary husband, father, and grandfather. In his younger years, Armando was an amateur poet, whose poetry revealed his big loving heart. Throughout his life, Armando loved learning and reading, and discussing daily news and current events. He enjoyed reading newspapers, and keeping up with current social and political news. He was also a baseball fan, particularly of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Known for his humble and warm ways, Armando made friends easily and shared his joy of good conversation with neighbors, family, and friends. Birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions were great opportunities for him to share his love of family and good food. These gatherings became more meaningful over the years with the addition to the family of his two beloved granddaughters, and in-laws Maria del Refugio and Alberto Gutierrez . As a new American, Armando was proud of his contributions to U.S society through his hard work, model citizenship, personal accomplishments, and the educational achievements of his two sons. But Armando never forgot his native Nicaragua. Love for his homeland always remained close to his heart. He treasured the many memories of his life and times in Nicaragua, and always looked forward to return visits with his dear wife. As a deeply faithful Catholic, Armando was also devout to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Prior to immigrating to the United States, Armando visited the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City to seek her blessings. In recognition of those blessings and his love for Our Lady of Guadalupe, Armando would always celebrate her feast day on December 12 by taking flowers to the Church of Our Lady Queen of the Angels (La Placita Olvera) in Downtown Los Angeles. Armando now rests in eternal peace by the side and bright light of God and Our Lady of Guadalupe, beaming with love and safeguarding our path. We know we will meet you again in the future, and receive your unconditional love, warmth, and special hugs. May Armando always remain in our hearts forever and ever. Armando is survived by his wife of 54 years, Angelina, sons Armando Xavier, and Roberto Ramon, daughter-in-law Maria del Refugio Gutierrez Mejia, and granddaughters, Maritza Angelica and Lucia Cecilia.
