Arlene Phyllis Winer

Arlene Phyllis Winer passed away in Palm Desert, Calif. on March 29, 2014 at the age of 81. She was born May 14, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Maurice and Rose Schoenfeld. She grew up there with her sister, Diana. She married Sid Winer on February 22, 1953 in the Bronx, N.Y. They were married 53 years until Sid's death in 2006. Arlene is survived by her sister, Diana Greenstein, of Commack, N.Y.; her three sons, Kenneth Winer of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Michael Winer of Monterey, Calif. and Bruce Winer of Poway, Calif.; and her six grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, Jessica, David, Rachel, and Lauren. She is also survived by her close friend and companion, Jerry Green of Palm Springs, Calif. Arlene and Sid raised their three boys in Randolph, N.J., where Arlene worked as a legal assistant. Arlene moved to San Diego, Calif. in 1974, where she worked as an executive assistant in the Physics department at UCSD, retiring from that career in 1988. She moved to Palm Desert with her husband Sid in 1993. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Noon, Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Forest Lawn in Cathedral City, Calif. The family will hold a private interment service at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, on Monday April 7th.
