Arief Tay

Oct 12, 1944 — Jul 15, 2026

Arief Robert Tay passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 15, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 12, 1944, Arief was the eldest child of Nam Pie Tay and A Sin Lian. He grew up alongside his four younger sisters and four older half-siblings, embracing the importance of family and relationships from an early age—values that remained at the center of his life.

On July 9, 1972, Arief married the love of his life, Elizabeth Tay, beginning a marriage that spanned more than five decades. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion, raising two sons, Armin Tay and Arian Tay.

Arief was, above all else, a genuinely kind and generous man. He was known for his honesty, his gentle heart, and his quiet humility. He never wanted to burden others, often placing the needs of family, friends, and even strangers before his own. His kindness was effortless and sincere, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He cherished relationships above all else. Arief had countless friends, and it seemed that everyone who met him came away feeling like they had gained one more. He loved being surrounded by people, engaging in long conversations, sharing stories from his life, and introducing others to foods and things that brought him joy. Whether it was a favorite meal, a funny memory, or a simple conversation, he found happiness in sharing life's small pleasures.

Arief found joy in the little things. His warm smile, easygoing nature, handsome charm, and welcoming personality made others feel instantly at ease. He had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and included. His optimism, generosity, and genuine interest in others will be remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Arief is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Tay; his sons, Armin Tay and Arian Tay; his sisters, extended family, and the many dear friends who became part of his lifelong circle.

Although his passing leaves an immeasurable void, the love he gave, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.Arief believed that life's greatest treasures were not found in possessions, but in the people we love, the conversations we share, and the kindness we show one another. His life was a testament to that belief, and his legacy will continue through all those whose lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
