Ariadne M. Toczek

Ariadne M. Toczek, 89, born on October 31, 1927 in Athens, Greece passed away September 16, 2017. She resided in Glendale, California at the time of her passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, California.

Ariadne M. Toczek M.D. grew up in upstate New York in and around Albany. Her family moved to the Los Angeles area in the early 1940s. She was a graduate of UCLA (B.A., Liberal Arts, 1950) and the Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania (1955). She met her husband of 47 years, Stanislaw K. Toczek, M.D., a visiting neurosurgeon from Poland, in 1960 at UCLA Medical Center where she was a research fellow in pediatric neurology.

They moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1964. Her medical career continued there, including positions at the Montgomery County Department of Health Services, the Food and Drug Administration, Georgetown University (as clinical professor of Pediatrics) and as head of Health Services for the Mentally Disabled in the District of Columbia.

Her research knowledge, clinical experience and understanding of bioethical considerations made her a valuable consultant to the Presidential Commission on The Mentally Disabled during the Reagan Administration as well as to several Congressional offices concerning drug use and the risks posed to American youth. These associations led to her giving testimony to several hearings of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the White House. She also served as scientific advisor to the Washington Legal Foundation.

Dr. Toczek is survived by her son Andrzej, daughter Maria, grandchildren Gabrielle and Nicholas and daughter in law Amy.
