Arceli Lacbay
Macalagay
October 21, 1946 – April 27, 2026
Arceli “Cely” Lacbay Macalagay, 79, born on October 21, 1946, in Lumban, Laguna, Philippines, passed away April 27, 2026. She has called Los Angeles, California home for the past 54 years of her life. She was known to be an active part of her community, a devoted wife, doting mother and grandmother, and beloved matriarch of her entire family. Throughout her life she blazed trails and was the life of the party. Generous and giving to all, she was committed to uplifting the lives and hearts of everyone around her. She was a friend to many and a constant source of love and hospitality for everyone who knew her. Our stories of Cely are filled with laughter, honesty, sharp wit, and sarcasm. We may all take comfort in the joy she brought to our lives and solace in the deep sense of family and love that she cultivated within all of us.
Cely was an avid traveler, gardener, devout Catholic, and adventure-seeker. From her studies and the friends she made at University of Santo Tomas, Philippines, her involvement in the Lumban Association, and her commitment to the parish community at St. Bernard’s Church, Cely cherished the lifelong friendships that brought her comfort, especially in the last years of her life. Her husband Juanito “Tuke”, children Jay, Jo-Ann, and John, and grandson Caden, were the center of her life - for whom she served always as the heart and guidepost.
She is survived by her children, Jay, Jo-Ann, John; grandson, Caden; sisters Lolita Villagracia and Elvira Arvisu; 50 first cousins, more than 75 grandchildren, and a multitude more of family and friends that all celebrate a life well-lived. We take solace that she is no longer in pain and is resting in paradise with her husband Tuke, sister Clemen Lumayag and brother Edgardo “Bornex” Lacbay, and her parents Amancio “Mencio” and Amada “Mading” Lacbay. We are all grateful for everything she has given us, and the enduring impact she will continue to have on all of us for the rest of our lives.
