Anthony Joseph Nocera, Sr.

Anthony Joseph Nocera, Sr., passed away on January 2, 2018, in Long Beach, California. He was 91.

Born November 18, 1926, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, Anthony was the son of the late Alessandro and Assunta Cialella Nocera. After spending his childhood in Pennsylvania, Anthony joined the United States Army in February 1945, serving his country during World War II as a sergeant and platoon leader who was also in charge of the company motor pool. He was wounded in the line of duty in June 1945.

After his honorable discharge from the Army, Anthony made a life for himself in New Castle, marrying his beloved wife Josephine on August 18, 1950, and going to work for the B&O Railroad. Anthony and Josephine would go on to welcome three children.

After his retirement from B&O, Anthony and Josephine moved to Southern California, eventually settling in their home in Anaheim, where Anthony would live for the rest of his life. They enjoyed traveling the world together—whether it be taking a cruise with their friends or going on an extended tour of Europe. Anthony's favorite trips, though, were his and Josephine's frequent visits to Las Vegas, Laughlin and other local casinos. He loved nothing more than relaxing with a cup of coffee while playing video poker with his wife.

In between his travels, Anthony volunteered at his local Veterans association and was a member of the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by Josephine, his wife of 67 years, as well as daughter Kathleen of Cypress, California, son Anthony Jr. (Michelle) of Long Beach, California, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Nocera-Crofts; son-in-law John Majeski and siblings Beatrice Kuchynka, Mary Jane Perrotta, Pauline Nocera and Angelo Nocera.

Funeral services and burial will be held on January 9, 2018, at Forest Lawn in Cypress.
