Annie Laurie Tucker was born on November 24, 1945, in Traverse City, Michigan and went home to be with the Lord on July 10, 2023 at the age of 77 at her residence in Palm Desert, California. She was surrounded by the love and support of her family and friends throughout her battle with cancer and often reminded them she was ready to go home to Heaven through the words of one of her favorite hymns, "It is Well with My Soul".
Ann and her husband George were married August 17, 1968 in Lapeer, Michigan. George and Ann first lived in Michigan, then embarked on a number of moves throughout the country: Michigan to Indiana; Indiana back to Michigan; Michigan to Ohio; Ohio to California; and California back to Ohio. They returned to California after retirement in 2007, where they enjoyed homes in Lake Arrowhead and Palm Desert.
While Ann always shared that her very favorite job was raising her children, she also emphasized and demonstrated the importance of education. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a teaching credential from the University of Michigan and an MBA from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. With those degrees, she served as a high school Spanish and bilingual geography teacher in schools in Michigan, Ohio, and California. Ann was a voracious reader and linguistics student, often studying for hours to understand the history, culture, and etymology of the words of the Bible for her weekly Bible studies. One of her favorite books was Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice. Her three Kindles are filled with a variety of versions of that novel among thousands of other titles which she also enjoyed.
Ann's other interests included baking, especially pies and cookies which were favorites of her family as well as others throughout her community. She also loved having beautiful, fresh flowers in her home, being outdoors, traveling with her husband, playing golf with the ladies’ golf and putter groups, card games such as bridge, and engaging in any game or activity with her children and grandchildren.
Ann is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, George Henry Tucker III, her three children and their spouses, Jennifer Tucker Mottes (and husband Alan), Robert Tucker (and wife Krista), and Katherine Steinkraus (and husband Jeff). She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Scolinos (and husband Michael), Joshua Tucker, Caleb Tucker, Luke Tucker, Kara Steinkraus, Molly Steinkraus, and Gage Mottes. She also leaves behind her brother Benjamin Blissett and his wife Margie, sister-in-law Jane Atzinger and her husband Al, sister-in-law Judith Schatz, and brother-in-law James Tucker, along with a host of other family and friends whom she loved and cared for deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Floyd Greanya, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, George Jr. and Luella Tucker, her brother Robert Blissett, her brother-in-law Harry Schatz, and her sister-in-law Diane Blissett.
Ann lived her life with unsurpassed love for her family, strength, courage, and faith in the Lord. Through the cards she mailed to her friends and family, she consistently reminded us to stay strong, remain faithful, and be positive. Through the hymns she sang during the day, she reminded us to find joy in our everyday lives. Through her talents as a baker, she reminded us that life is sweet and meant to be enjoyed. Ann loved everyone and was deeply loved and admired in return.
A service to honor her and celebrate her life is being planned for October 28, 2023. Details and location will be announced.
