Anne "Paka" Murphy

September 11, 1924 — October 3, 2018

Beloved daughter of the late Rose and Charles Hlynosky was born at home on September 11, 1924 in the Yatesboro Rural Valley, Pennsylvania area. She left home at 16 years old with her older sister to work as a governess in St Petersburg, Florida. Anne had many jobs over her lifetime; an aircraft riveter during WW2, a Nursing Assistant, an Elder Care specialist and 15 years at Sears Roebuck & Co. She loved cooking for her family and had several specialties including Biscotti, Perogies and Chicken Kiev. After raising her family and being widowed at 52 years old, she devoted her life to volunteering and her family. She gave thousands of hours of her time to organizations including Cedar Sinai Hospital, Eisenhower Hospital, The Blood Bank, Collectors Corner, The Living Desert and Rancho Mirage Public Library.
She was united in marriage to Harold Lee Murphy on February 3, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1976 after 32 years of marriage. Together they had 4 children, Harold Wayne (Jennifer) Murphy; Katherine Murphy; David (Connie) Murphy and Stephen (Bonnie) Murphy. Known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Paka", she loved spending time with her family and entertained everyone with projects or games, planting flowers, coloring Ukrainian Eggs and telling her many stories. Anne was an enthusiastic person who loved to be the first one up in the morning and found joy in everything she did. She participated in a 5K race when she was 71 and came in second in her age group. Anne was so proud that she made the sports page.
She loved to travel, garden, birdwatch, fish and making food or homemade rag rugs that she gifted to family and friends. Anne loved being with people and was always willing to help those in need and spend time with sick or lonely friends. She was always "game" for any adventure and drove across the country with her granddaughter Colleen, when she was in her 80's.
She leaves so many cherished memories of her amazing life with the future generations, grandsons; Brian Murphy, Shad (Jessica) Murphy, James Murphy and Finn Murphy and granddaughters; Colleen (Clint) Murphy, Carson (Patrick) Carnahan, Bridget Murphy. And great-grandchildren, Alexandra Murphy, Scarlett Murphy-Madison, Fiona Murphy-Madison, Dalton Murphy and Dylan Carnahan.
Anne was predeceased by eleven siblings and is survived by 3 sisters, Florence, Jenny and Rose; and her dear sister in law Agnes. She is held in the hearts of her many nieces and nephews and so many friends. The richness of her life was measured in all the love that she gave and takes with her on her next adventure.
In lieu of flowers, Anne's wish is that you make a donation to your favorite charity or volunteer.
