Angelo "Andy" Carmelo Bellomo, 89, of Palm Springs, Calif., passed away May 8, 2015 at his home of natural causes. Andy was born on November 23, 1925 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Bernarda and Carmelo Bellomo. Andy served overseas in World War II in the Army Air Corps as a radio and teletype operator, and obtained the rank of Sergeant at the age of 19; he was awarded American Combat Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. After the war he received his bachelors and masters degrees from California State University Los Angeles, where he was the Student Body President. He married Jane Ann Burson on June 16, 1951, and they were married 55 years until her death in 2006. Andy, Jane and their oldest son, Jim, moved to Palm Springs in 1957. Andy had a 42 year career in education and 36 years in the Palm Springs Unified School District. First as an elementary school teacher, but for most of his career he was the school principal of Cahuilla Elementary and then Vista del Monte Elementary. In retirement, Andy was active at Mizell's Senior Center, Retired Teachers of California, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He is survived by his two sons, Jim Bellomo (Kathleen) of Redmond, Wash., Steven Bellomo (Jamie) of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; and one daughter, Rene Church (Danny) of Yucca Valley, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Jane; his son, John; and three brothers. A rosary will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 7:00 pm in the Ramon Chapel at Forest Lawn in Cathedral City, Calif. A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 204 S. Calle El Segundo, Palm Springs, CA 92262. Interment will be private with arrangements under the direction of Forest Lawn.
