Angela Hope Bailey-Thompson was born on December 14, 1960, in Anchovy, Saint James, Jamaica, to Hyacinth Maude Yapp and the late Kenneth Livingston Windross. She was the first child of Kenneth and the third of nine children in the loving Grant–Windross family. From birth, Angela was the apple of her father’s eye, doted on by her grandparents and aunties, and surrounded by nurturing love that shaped her compassion, warmth, and quiet strength.
Angela grew up in Anchovy, where she attended Anchovy Primary and Secondary School. She was known for her intelligence, gentle nature, and protective spirit toward her siblings. Her early years were filled with strong family values, faith, and a sense of belonging within her close-knit community.
Her educational journey led her to the University of the West Indies, West Indies College in Mandeville, where she studied biological sciences. During this period, she lived with Brother Ralley and his family, who became her extended family and spiritual mentors. It was there that Angela embraced the Seventh-day Adventist faith, a guiding light that would define her outlook and choices throughout her life. Every time she returned to Jamaica, she visited Brother Ralley and his family, maintaining that lifelong bond of faith and affection.
After her time in Mandeville, Angela moved to Kingston, where she lived with her family members Yvonne and cousin Rodney. It was a period of transition and anticipation, as her mother, Hyacinth, was preparing to reunite the family in the United States.
In the early 1980s, Angela traveled to the U.S. to join her mother and siblings, temporarily separating from her beloved infant daughter, Khadine, who remained in Jamaica with cousins, Yvonne and Rodney. Angela embarked on this journey to establish a foundation in preparation for being reunited with her family members in Jamaica. The cherished reunion was later completed when Khadine, Yvonne, and Rodney also made their way to the U.S., settling in Los Angeles, California, bringing the family together once more.
During early years in the US, Angela dedicated herself to education and growth. She pursued her studies in Bookkeeping at West Los Angeles College, all while lovingly raising her young daughter with the unwavering support of her family. She quickly became known as a diligent bookkeeper, admired for her incredible work ethic, meticulous attention to detail, and profound sense of responsibility. Her family grew with the arrival of her beloved son, Shawn, from her union with Tony Bailey. Together, they were devoted parents, raising their children with unwavering love and faith, always prioritizing their well-being, education, and success.
Angela's family was truly the cornerstone of her existence. She poured her heart into nurturing her children, and later, her beloved grandson, Joshua Mantock Jr., who held an especially cherished place in her heart. Beyond her immediate family, Angela was a guiding light for her many nieces and nephews, consistently offering encouragement, investing in their education, sharing a comforting prayer, or providing a warm smile.
Always eager to learn, Angela continued her education while balancing her professional life and family responsibilities. In 2017, her determination and perseverance led her to earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from California State University, Los Angeles—an achievement that reflected her commitment to excellence, faith, and lifelong learning. Following her graduation, Angela initially worked as an Accounting Consultant, providing accounting services to small and mid-sized businesses, and eventually moved on to a role as a staff Accountant at Riverside County.
Family, Faith, and Love
Angela’s Seventh-day Adventist faith was the foundation of her life. She lived with humility, generosity, and devotion, always putting others before herself. Her home radiated love, laughter, and music, a warm reflection of her caring spirit. At her side was her beloved dog, Coco, whose companionship brought her daily comfort and joy.
Angela possessed a remarkably open heart and maintained deep connections to both her Jamaican roots and African heritage. She was an active and supportive member of her Jamaican community, regularly attending cultural gatherings, church events, and family celebrations. She generously contributed her time and resources, always ready to celebrate, uplift, and support those around her. Her love for African culture was equally profound; she embraced her brother’s wife’s Liberian community as her own, joyfully participating in their traditions, stories, and celebrations. Angela believed strongly in the beauty of cross-cultural connection and found great meaning in uniting people through faith, family, and shared humanity. She also loved to travel and explore, notably venturing to Dubai en route to Ghana, West Africa. That trip left a lasting joy in her heart and reflected her lifelong curiosity and appreciation for the wider world.
Angela transitioned peacefully on October 1, 2025, surrounded by her beloved children and sisters, and comforted by God’s presence, prayers and family.
Angela's life journey was a beautiful testament of faith, love and resilience. She lived each day with gratitude, strength, and grace, facing every challenge with courage and faith. Her unwavering perseverance and compassion touched all who knew her. Her laughter, wisdom, and unconditional love will remain forever in our hearts.
