On Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 7:43pm PST Amparo Anastacio Bernardo - loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend - passed away at the age of 82. She passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, including all of her children and several grandchildren. Amparo was born on December 3, 1937 in Davao City, Philippines. She married Ricardo Bernardo on June 20, 1957 and immigrated to the United States in 1973. Though she worked in different industries throughout her life, her greatest joy was raising five children with her husband: Aurora, Nathaniel, Marites, Erlinda, and Daniel.
Ampy (as she was fondly called by those who knew her) dedicated her life to instilling her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion onto her family. To know her was to immediately love her: she was an instant ray of sunshine and love to whomever she met. Ampy lived in many places in her life - Davao, Philippines, all over the state of California (Santa Maria, West Covina, Oxnard, Eastvale), and Las Vegas, NV: but she was always "home" as long as she was with her family. Ampy was known for her great beauty (both inside and out), her warm smile, her big heart, her delicious cooking, her love of God and the Virgin Mary, her affection for romantic comedies, being a matriarchal Hufflepuff, sipping a beer with her bunso, sneaking french fries from her daughters' plates, and her infectious laugh.
Amparo is preceded in death by her husband Ricardo, her mother and father Soledad (née Natividad) and Roman Anastacio (respectively), and her sister Lily. She is survived by her children Aurora, Nathaniel, Marites, Erlinda, and Daniel; her grandchildren Noel, Aimee, Gabriel, Shawn, Ryan, Jonathan, Michael, Adam, Justin, and Annabelle; her great-grandchildren Draven, Noah, and Logan; and her sister Raquel Fernandez (née Anastacio).
A prayer service will be held for her on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 6pm PST. Amparo's funeral services will be on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 10am PST. All services will be held at Forest Lawn - Covina Hills (21300 Via Verde St, Covina, CA 91724). Both services will be live streamed. DUE TO STRICT COVID PROTOCOLS, CAPACITY IS LIMITED - please email bernardofamilylegacy@gmail.com to inquire about attendance, either in-person or virtually. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Amparo's name to the American Diabetes Association. In lieu of flowers or donations, act in her honor: practice kindness, love, compassion, and laughter despite everything.
