Amelia Mendez

Amelia Mendez (91) was born on January 29, 1925, in Lima, Peru. She resided in North Hollywood, California at the time of her passing on May 26, 2016. She is survived by her husband Nelson Mendez, daughters Millie (Scott) and Cindy (Mark), and grandchildren Alicia, Jordan, Xenia, Elaine, and Selena. Nieces Shirley, Sibely, Isabel,Ada, Margarita, Ines, and nephew Fernando. Amelia was proceeded by her brothers Fernando and Nestor, and mother Amelia Astete. Amelia's faith was strong, enjoyed singing, gardening, and caring for children. Her first profession was a elementary school teacher at Colegio Maria Alvardo in Lima, Peru. Amelia worked at Franciscan China as a china decorator, a home health aide, and then did some childcare in her home before retiring. Amelia had dear friends who she maintained in contact with throughout her life from the Methodist Church in Lima, Peru. Amelia and Nelson were married in Glendale, CA in 1961. Amelia raised two children with Nelson and worked outside the home as well as for her church. Amelia taught Sunday School, was involved with the United Methodist Women's group, played a little piano, and enjoyed gardening, and singing.

A Memorial Service will be held at Glendale First United Methodist Church 134 N. Kenwood St., Glendale, CA (818) 243-2105. Date is June 20, 2016 at 11:00a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimers Association, National Autism Association, or the ALS Association. Links are available in the margin on the left. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Glendale, California.
