Alvin Wicker

Alvin Wicker, 80, born on June 07, 1945, in Greensburg, LA, United States, passed away August 24, 2025. He resided in Long Beach, CA at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Long Beach, CA.

Alvin Abraham Wicker was born June 7, 1945 m, Geensburg, Louisiana to Ernest L. Higginbotham and SaFronia Mae Wicker.

Alvin attended school at New Star Elementary and St. Helen in Greensburg L.A. Parish.

In 1965, Alvin joined the Job Corps and was the first black Smoke Jumper. In 1966 he enrolled in the Trade School Institution to become a welder. That same year he began his professional career as a welder at the Long Beach Naval shipyard. He retired in July of 1997. He wasn't one to sit still he started his second career as a traveling security officer. The last ten years he was permanently assigned to one location in Whittier CA.

In 1968, Alvin laid eyes on his future wife, Barbara Williams. He married Barbara on June 25, 1976. From this union 3 beautiful children were born, Julie, Alvina, and Eric Wicker.Barbara's favorite memory of her husband is there time together watching old western movies. Eric was alway excited to see his dad because he would bring junk food to them after work.

Alvin is preceded in death by; Ernest Higginbotham, (Father), SaFronia Mae Wicker (Mother), Julie Marie Wicker (Daughter), Alvina Mae Wicker (Daughter), Earl Wicker (Brother), James E. Higginbotham (Brother), Patricia Wicker (Sister),  Betty Ann Higginbotham (Sister), Abraham Wicker (Favorite Uncle).

Alvin leaves to cherish his memory; His loving wife, Barbara Wicker, Son, Eric Wicker (Dawn). Siblings; Dorthy Thomas (Clarence), Dillon Wicker (Gloria), Charles Wicker Green (Viola), Irma Douglas Lastra. Grandchildren; Joseph Wicker, Brianna Wicker, Eric A. Wicker Jr., Adrian C. Wicker, Reece J. Wicker, Raenyce Campbell, and Shaqille Camplbell. Three great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
