Alma Towne May, 95, was an exceptional mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, sister and person. She was born on August 2, 1924, in Wilmington, Vermont, to Elizabeth Allen and George Kingsley, and passed away on January 28, 2020 in Los Alamitos, California. She grew up with five brothers and sisters- Bertha ("Betty"), Harold, Bernice ("Bunny"), Phyllis, and Richard. Alma earned a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Penn State University in 1947, and later worked at General Electric, American Cyanamid, and Truesdail Laboratories as an analytical chemist. She was coach and forward on the Cyanamid women's basketball team, and was a member of the River Hills Ski Club. Alma was married to Leland Towne from 1952 to 1962, and they had three sons- Philip, David, and Mark. Alma raised her sons as a single mom while balancing her career and faith, including over 20 years in the choir at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Rock, California. She married Alvin May in 1981, and they enjoyed a long and active retirement, traveling widely in the United States (including Hawaii and Alaska), and in Canada and Costa Rica to see family and friends. She enjoyed family geneaology, reading, walking outdoors, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Alma was a strong, courageous, humble and dignified woman. She is, and always will be, dearly missed. Visitation services will be held on Thursday, March 5th, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 6th, at Forest Lawn, 1712 South Glendale Avenue, Glendale, California. A memorial service will be held for Alma on Friday, March 6th, at 1:30 p.m. in the Wee Kirk o' the Heather Church, at Forest Lawn, Glendale, 1712 South Glendale Avenue.
