Allen Hokenson was born to Lawrence and Frieda Hokenson on May 31, 1938, in Manitowoc, WI. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith as an infant, and later confirmed after 8th Grade. Allen graduated from Lincoln high school in 1956. After graduation, Allen enlisted in the US Navy, he spent time in the Pacific traveling to Asian countries such as the Philippines and Japan.

After serving in the Navy for 4 years, Allen moved to California in 1961. Shortly after moving to California, Allen met the love of his life, Evelyn Kovats, and they were married on July 11, 1964. Allen and Evelyn remained together for over 54 years of marriage.

In 1966 they bought a home in West Covina where they lived for the rest of their lives. Allen and Evelyn attended Our Savior Lutheran Church, Pomona, and were active in the church for many years. They eventually transferred to Grace Lutheran in 2002.

Allen worked a few jobs while putting himself through college, first at Mt. San Antonio College and then California State University Los Angeles. He graduated from Cal State LA with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1971. He worked as a Program Engineer for Federal Government in various departments, mostly on the Standard Missile Program for the Navy. During his time as a Program Engineer, he traveled for work quite frequently, mostly to Boston, Washington DC and Tucson, AZ.

Allen was never really into hobbies; however, he was always doing home improvement projects. These included extensive undertakings such as installing central air conditioning, completely tearing off and laying down a new roof, and remodeling the kitchen. He even made the kitchen cabinets and doors as well.

Allen retired from the Government in 1999. After retirement he and Evelyn bought a 36' diesel motorhome and traveled all over North America for several months out of the year. This was probably when Allen was the happiest in his life – he really loved driving to beautiful scenic destinations with Evelyn.

Apart from his many accomplishments in his lifetime, Allen should be most remembered as a man of high character. Allen was a man you could always depend upon, always true to his word, and never put himself first. He was a solid husband, father, brother, and friend his entire life. We are all richer for knowing him.

Allen was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn in 2019. They are survived by sons Eric (Susan) and Mark (Jacqueline), and grandchildren Rachael, Anthony, Ayden, and Zoey.
