After valiantly fighting an illness since April, Ali Tahmouresie, M.D. went peacefully to Allah on December 26, 2015. Ali was born on April 5, 1941 in Saveh, Iran, to Batoul and Abbas Tahmouresie. He studied medicine at the University of Tehran. He served in the military as a physician for two years in Bandar Lengeh. In 1970, Ali came to the United States. He was a surgical resident at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. for two years. In 1972, he married his wife, Eleanor. They have three children, Maria Alana, Abbas William and Taraneh Elizabeth. Ali performed a five year neurosurgical residency at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Upon completion, Ali relocated with his family to Palm Springs, California, where he became the first full-time neurosurgeon in the Coachella Valley. He served his community for 38 years as a Board Certified neurosurgeon. He practiced at Desert Hospital, JFK, and Eisenhower Medical Center, where he served as the President (Chief) of the Medical Staff from 1996-97. He was the Chief of the Surgery Department from 1990-91. He was a member at large on the medical executive committee. In 2010 he helped form the Desert Spine and Neuroscience Institute, where his focus until 2015 was on the treatment of non-surgical patients. Ali was very much loved, admired and respected by both his patients, colleagues and all those with whom he came in contact. His passions outside of medicine revolved around his family and home, and his "green thumb." He loved to play the piano and tennis. Ali was a very giving and generous man. He was always there for everyone. He loved to laugh and he loved to make other people laugh. Ali was both a gentleman and a gentle man. Ali is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Eleanor; his three children, Maria Alana, Abbas William, and Taraneh Elizabeth; his son-in-law, Jason Inman, and his two grandchildren, James Ali and Liam Gerard. He is also survived by his two brothers, Ahmad and Mehdi, and his four sisters, Talet, Shoket, Mansoor, and Agdas, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held in the Ramon Chapel at Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 11:00 am with Funeral Service at 1:00 pm with interment to follow at Desert Memorial Park.
