Alfred L. Nilsson was born in Brooklyn, NY to parents emigrating from Scandinavia. As a pre-teen, he spent several years at sea. Enlisting in the US Navy in 1936, he served 4 years. Subsequently, he joined the US Army and was appointed to Officer Candidate School. After active duty, he remained in the Army Reserve until 1979 retiring as a Major. He is survived by daughters Cheryl Ray and Patricia Price, close family friend Clinta Dayton Farber, three grandsons, two great grandchildren, also close friends Steve and Cindy Selznick and Richie Brown. Married 35 years to Virginia Walker, she passed away in 1997. Employed by Pacific Bell and AT&T as a communication engineer, he retired after 35 years. He resided in Van Nuys in the same house for 50 years. Al was a jack-of-all-trades and enjoyed repairing electronics, clocks and deft at tying sailor's knots. He loved sailing, swimming, crossword and Suduko puzzles. He looked forward to spending most evenings in his neighbor's spa and drinking a cocktail.
