Alexander Ediss, 79, born on November 16, 1943, in Baltimore, MD, United States, passed away November 01, 2023. He resided in Palm Springs, CA at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, CA.
On Wednesday November 1, 2023, a very loving husband and father passed away peacefully at the age of 79 with family by his side, two weeks before his 80th birthday.
He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 16, 1943.
He was raised in Southern California, which gave him many years of fun in the sun, surfing the beaches, and the opportunity to accomplish his American Dream.
In junior high, he went to Southern California Military Academy in Long Beach, and he graduated from Tustin High School in 1961.
He married Clarisse Hanna on October 23, 1965, and they got to celebrate 58 years in 2023.
Starting very young, he always had a job. Gardening for Grandmother, helping Grandfather craft picture frames for Grandfather’s paintings. Selling flower seeds and greeting cards, and delivering the newspaper kept him busy after he got his first bike.
In 1963, he worked at a gas station in Fullerton while attending college. As a gas attendant, he could have just pumped gas for each patron; however, the first time Clarisse drove in, he pumped the gas, washed all the windows, checked the oil and water, cleaned the license plate, and checked all the tires. She was most definitely impressed.
Alex graduated from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1975 and soon after moved to Palm Springs to practice chiropractic until October 30, 2018, just before his 75th birthday. He spent many years helping Dr. Robert Blaich teach at Applied Kinesiology seminars.
His service in the Coast Guard Reserves in the 60s was important to him as he was very patriotic. Years of fun and community service were had with the Kiwanis Club in the 80’s. He served many positions, including president for two terms. He had great memories of the rodeos, clowning for the parades, and great parties with their many friends from those years.
Meeting all the families of Nicole's friends was a joy to him. Watching her and her friends grow up was one of his big entertainments. He loved reminiscing about raising Nicole, and all the fun things they had done. His love for his Nicole (Cole) was very deep.
He had many interests in his life. Windsurfing with his sister; tennis at Smoke Tree, the Racquet Club, and the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club; fishing with his dad and brothers; tending to his garden and fruit trees; having cookies in his pockets for his pets; and, of course, watching (and hollering at) football. He supported the football programs at St. Theresa’s School and Palm Springs High School, and religiously watching college football and the LA Rams. He enjoyed being one of the team doctors (Doc Ediss) for the football team at Palm Springs High School during the 80’s and 90’s.
He cared deeply for his patients, and when it came time for him to be the patient, he cared deeply for his doctors, nurses, and caregivers.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents Alexander T. Ediss and Princess Marie Poutiatine. He is survived by his sister Joan, and brothers Gregory, Theodore, John, Thomas, and Stephen.
The family would like to extend special thank you’s to Tranquility Sands Hospice, Howard, and all the hospice staff. Thank you to the wonderful caregivers Maria, Mary Lou, and Emily. To all the doctors, nurses, and assistants at Desert Hospital, Loma Linda Medical Center, and Forest Lawn, Thank you!
