Alejandro "Alex" Anonuevo Villanueva passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 2nd, 2022 at the age of 73 at USC Norris Cancer Center. Alex was born on February 27th, 1949 in San Pablo City, Laguna, Philippines to Eudocia "Uding" Bautista Anonuevo and Antonio "Tonyo" Artificio Villanueva. Alex was the 7th youngest of 12 children. Alex graduated from Laguna College and was a merchant marine, who travelled throughout the world including Germany, Poland, Brazil, and Vietnam. His first marriage to Natalia "Nida" Alinea de Gorostiza was on May 1st, 1976. They immigrated to the U.S. where they raised 2 children in Minnesota - Jose Antonio "Jojo" de Gorostiza Villanueva and John Alexander "Jayjay" de Gorostiza Villanueva. Alex worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis until he moved to Eagle Rock, CA with his family in 1987. Alex continued to work for the Federal Reserve Bank of Los Angeles and after 30 years of service he retired in 2010. Alex spent the last 26 years of his life in Alhambra, CA and his current marriage to Helen Alvenda Villanueva was on January 20th, 2008.

Alex loved spending time with his devoted wife Helen; hanging out with family - especially his grandchild Luis Andres de Gorostiza Villanueva; and catching up with friends. He was very proud of his 2 children: Jojo Villanueva - a graduate of USC's Thornton School of Music, who currently works as a music executive at Sony Pictures; and Dr. John Villanueva, M.D. - a graduate of Cornell University and University of Minnesota Medical School and currently a pain management specialist in Burbank.

Alex gave unconditionally without expectation nor the need for acknowledgement to family and friends here in the U.S. and in the Philippines. He was a devout Catholic, obsessed over nutrition labels, and enjoyed buying SuperLotto tickets.

Alex is preceded in death by his parents: Uding and Tonyo; and siblings: Aida "Inay" Villanueva Aliazas; Bella Villanueva Felismino; Dante Anonuevo Villanueva; Nila "Neneng" Villanueva Infante; Evangeline "Eva" Villanueva Alcos; Louisa "Lowie" Villanueva Fernandez; and Ofelia Villanueva.

Alex is survived by his wife Helen; his children Jojo and Dr. Jay; his grandchild Luis; his siblings Nerit, Deli, Imelda, Betty; his nieces and nephews; the mother of his children Nida; and several other family members and friends in the Philippines and the U.S.
