**In Loving Memory of Alex Maluto Cruz**
Alex Maluto Cruz, a beloved father, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this life on March 19, 2025, in Los Angeles at the age of 65. Born on December 5, 1959, in Paranaque, Philippines, he was the youngest son of Adoracion Maluto Cruz and Rodolfo Cruz.
He is survived by his loving siblings: Edith Cruz Pascual, Rodolfo Cruz Jr., Josefina Cruz, Teresita Cruz, Jose Cruz, and Luis Cruz. His legacy lives on through his loving daughters, Maria Victoria and Sheree Gorriceta Cruz, who were truly his world.
As we gather to honor Alex's memory, we invite friends and family to share their love through food and laughter, just as he enjoyed throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests shareable food and snack baskets to be brought/delivered to 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, California 90068, on April 12th, any time between 9 AM and 5 PM, in celebration of Alex's love for good food and good company.

His family remembers Alex for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and sense of humor.
In 1978, at just 19 years old, he had a choice to finish school and become a teacher, or leave the Philippines and pursue the American Dream. Although he aspired to become an educator, the prospect of moving to America was an opportunity he couldn’t turn down.
Alex started his journey in Guam with his brother and confidante Luis, where he had some of the most memorable years of his life. Alex was an incredibly diligent worker— after his shift at Pedro’s Supermarket, he would sell souvenirs and hawaiian T-shirts to tourists. He even tried learning Japanese, so he could be a better salesman to the waves of tourists coming to the island from Japan. He was also extremely dedicated and committed to his family; sending them much of his income to help build the Cruz family home in Bacalaran, Philippines. This home is a testament to his hard work that still stands today and belongs to the Cruz Family.
After 5 years in Guam, Alex made his way to America and travelled around the West Coast, before settling down in Los Angeles. He moved in with his sister Tessie, his mom and a couple other cousins. In 1987, while out dancing, he met Gina Gorriceta at the Hyatt on Wilshire. Gina and Alex married, and started a family; their two daughters: Sheree and Victoria.
For the past 28 years Alex was living with his sisters Tessie and Josie. He enjoyed biking around the city of LA, collecting various “diamonds in the rough,” attending Mass, playing chess, and of course– eating good food. He had such a soft spot for dogs, especially for Luna, Victoria’s fur baby. He was truly a comedian, showman, and a great dancer; as seen by his wonderful dance performance at his daughter Sheree’s wedding. All who knew Alex knew that he was always very fashionable, and made sure he looked sharp; favoring his watches, jewelry and rings.
As his siblings shared, Alex was a kindhearted soul, and his persistent spirit—perhaps some would call stubborn—will always hold a special place in our hearts. Even in the last months of his life, as Alex was in severe pain, he fought; making jokes till the very end.
Alex’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and laughter. He will be deeply missed, and his memory will forever be a source of comfort to those who knew him. May he rest peacefully in heaven, surrounded by love
May he rest well in heaven, knowing he was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
