Hampstead, NH: Albert R. Desmarais, 79, a resident of Hampstead since 1995 and a former resident of Danville from 1986 to 1995, died on January 4, 2015 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH.
Born and raised in Haverhill, MA, son of the late Joseph A. and Rosealma (Belanger) Desmarais, he attended St. James School. Mr. Desmarais served in the Army Reserves from 1957 to 1963 and was honorably discharged.
He was employed in the cable shop for Lucent Technologies for over twenty-eight years until his retirement in 1993. A member of St. Anne's Parish in Hampstead, he served as an usher for over sixteen years. He was also a member of the Communication Workers of America and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
A dedicated and loving husband and father of five, Mr. Desmarais was a devoted grandfather to his eleven grandchildren. An avid golfer with a great sense of humor, Mr. Desmarais enjoyed working in his shed, puttering around his home, and helping his neighbors. He also enjoyed playing poker with his Emerson Retirement Village poker group.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Claire M. (Fournier) Desmarais, a son Michael A. Desmarais and his partner Paula Dill of Haverhill, four daughters, Maureen LeFrancois and her partner Lori McGibbon of Derry, Marlene Eccles of Manchester, NH, Donna Desmarais (Sr. Claire Joseph, OSB) of Westfield, VT, and Cynthia Bastille and her husband David of Plaistow, two brothers, Armand Desmarais of Florida and Alfred Desmarais of Haverhill, two sisters, Joan Kelley of Maynard, MA, and Carolyn Radzwill of Haverhill, eleven grandchildren, Keith Stickney, Donald Denman, Peter Desmarais, Chantal LeFrancois, Brian Eccles, Marissa Denman, Melanie Eccles, Audrey Eccles, Daniel Desmarais, Randy McGibbon, and Kasey McGibbon, a great grandson, Charles Douglas Williamson IV, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call on Friday, January 9, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Church, 26 Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH. Burial with Military Honors will take place in West Hampstead Cemetery in the Spring.
