Obituary of Alban A. Bullock, MD
Alban A. Bullock, age 86, a family physician/surgeon who cared for patients from his office in Arleta, California for over 59 years, passed Thursday, December 31, 2020, after an extended illness at Magnolia Gardens.
Dr. Bullock embodied the Hippocratic Oath, always practicing with the best interests of his patients in mind. Without concern for the time of day or day of the week, Dr. Bullock would see patients, their families, and many times simply strangers that needed medical care at his office, at their home or in the hospital. The inability of some of his patients to afford medical services never went into his decisions to provide care that they needed.
Born in 1934, in St. Vincent, West Indies, Dr. Bullock, being nearly the eldest of 11 siblings, set out to America alone to pursue his dream of becoming a physician. Dr. Bullock then completed his medical training at University of California Irvine in 1962.
Dr. Bullock opened his private practice in 1971 in Arleta, California. Many years ago, Dr. Bullock left his primary residence in Valencia, CA and converted the residence next door to his office to his new home so he could be closer to work. The office was now just a few steps away where he continued to treat patients daily until two years ago when he suffered a stroke. Dr. Bullock never officially retired from medicine.
Dr. Bullock was a continuous learner, a mentor and an inspiration to many who were fortunate to cross paths with him. He served on the medical staffs of a number of hospitals including Providence Holy Cross, Mission Community Hospital, Pacifica Hospital, Granada Hills and Sierra Memorial Hospitals.
Dr. Bullock had 3 children, and 3 grandchildren. When not working, which was infrequent, Dr. Bullock enjoyed watching movies, traveling back home to St. Vincent and visiting with family and friends. He was a devoted member of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley for over 40 years. Dr. Bullock will be remembered for kindness, humility, and dedication.
Dr. Bullock will journey home to be with his family who has preceded him in death including sons, Darren Scott Bullock and Michael John Bullock; his parents, George and Gertrude Bullock; sisters, Hermine Gunsam (d. Charles), and Violet Bullock; brothers, Lenford Bullock (Velma), and Wilby Bullock (Annette).
Dr. Bullock is survived by his son Dr. David Bullock. Brothers, Fitzroy, Bennie (Melita), Winston (Vilma), and Berkeley (Nola). Sisters, Claudine Gaymes(d. Carlton), and Venita Dean(d. Enous). Grandchildren, Joshua, Jonah, and Marissa Bullock as well as a large number of nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
