Agnes Barry-Williams

Agnes Barry-Williams peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 10th, 2023 at the blessed age of 95yrs old, at Astoria Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sylmar, CA.        

Agnes was born on November 6, 1928 in New Orleans, Louisiana to her parents, William Joseph Barry and Agnes Demolles-Barry. She was the youngest of ten children. Her siblings were: Herbert Barry Sr., Peter Barry, Edward Barry, Theodore Barry, Andrew Barry, Madelene Gladys Barry-LaCoste, Elouise L. Barry-Usher, Lilian Barry-Edgerson, and Eula “Mudda” Barry-Shelmire. Agnes later married Paul Fortuna Sr.

While her early years were spent in New Orleans, many of Agnes’ happiest memories occurred in New York City after her brother, Herbert Barry Sr. sent a ticket for her to come live with his family. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, playing bingo, cards, and dominoes, buying Lotto scratchers, and spending time with family and friends. Agnes eventually returned to New Orleans and met and married her longtime love, Edward “Eddie” Williams. Many years later, she moved to Los Angeles, CA to be near her children and sister, Eula “Mudda.”  Agnes was affectionately known as, “Gang Gang,” to her family and friends.

Agnes was blessed with four children:

• Paul Fortuna, his wife Shirley and their children: Miguel, Charmaine, Leah, and Danyelle.
• Glenn Fortuna, and his children: Renee, Cam, Dana, Michael, Glenn Joseph, Elizabeth, Christopher, Jennifer, Stephanie, Kimberly, Veronica, Alexandria, Monalisa, Glenn Johan, and Benjamin.  
• Aline Fortuna, and her children: Aisha, Brandee, and Willie.
• Darlene “Cookie” Wilson, and her children: Barry, DeAndre, Cory, Bobby, Wilburn, and bonus children, Unique and Rayshawn Lee.

She leaves behind countless great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Agnes was at peace and knew her homecoming was near. In her last words, she expressed joy at being reunited with her daughters, Cookie and Aline, and seeing her mother, father, and siblings again in Heaven.
