Adelaide Regina Cousins, 92, born November 16, 1924, in St, Louis, Missouri, passed away September 10, 2017, in Garden Grove, California.
Adelaide spent most of her childhood in Seattle, Washington where she went on to graduate from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Following graduation from college, she spent 16 years as a registered nurse, beginning her career in the aftermath of World War II. Adelaide married her late husband, Volney in 1959 and together had two children, Reginald and Thekla. In 1963, following her husband's job transfer she moved with her family to Orange County where she would remain until her death.
Throughout her life, Adelaide remained involved with her church and supported many worthwhile charitable organizations, one of the more noteworthy being the Precious Life Shelter for unwed mother's where she devoted countless hours of her time. She was also very active in the community. Among Adelaide's many accomplishments was receiving the Honorary Service Award from the Savannah School District in recognition for over 20 years of volunteering in her daughter's classroom and for her dedication to the students at Holder Elementary School. She also served as President of the Women's Club of Cypress from 1985 to 1986, an organization she was a member of for over 45 years.
Adelaide is survived by her son, Reginald Cousins, Lancaster, California, daughter, Thekla Seigman, Westminster, California, step-daughter Vicki Steckmann, Salem, Oregon, step-daughter Diane Boyd, Wylie, Texas, 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren. Adelaide was preceded in death by her husband, Volney Cousins, parents, Reginald and Adda Varns, Richmond Beach, Washington, her brother, William Varns, Beaverlodge, Alberta, Canada, and her sister, Abbe Jane Healy, Marysville, Washington."
Adelaide resided in Westminster, California at the time of her passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cypress, California.
